About James River Community Church
James River Community Church is a community devoted to one another in love, discipled by God’s Word, and committed to displaying the glory of Christ in all of life.
We believe that God saves His people and reconciles them to Himself through His Son, Jesus Christ—through His perfect life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection.
As a church, we walk together in faith, encouraging one another to persevere and faithfully proclaiming the good news of Jesus to the world around us.
Our History
In 1890, Mount Zion Christian Church was planted in the Eclipse neighborhood of northern Suffolk, Virginia.
In 1986, Grace Fellowship was planted just down the road. By 1995, the church had grown and was seeking a permanent place to meet.
In 1995, by God’s gracious providence, Mount Zion Christian Church and Grace Fellowship joined together. This new church was an answer to Mount Zion’s prayer for fresh energy and to Grace Fellowship’s prayer for a permanent meeting space. The merged congregation was called Mount Zion Fellowship.
In 2008, Mount Zion Fellowship changed its name to James River Community Church.
James River Community Church has had several staff pastors over the years:
*Jim Arcieri (1986–1999)
*Bob Haymes (2001–2005)
*Claude Marshall (2006–2016)
*Ben LoPresti (2016–2025)
*Present: We are currently in search of a new staff pastor.
